Goktimus Prime: I love that cover. I few years ago I tried to render several comic covers in toy form, here’s my attempt at recreating the cover of #74 with my toys, hope you like it.

Another piece of Marvel Transformers original cover art is now on eBay. Its the cover to issue #74. This is the one with Optimus Prime and Scorponok fighting side by side against the horde of Unicron followers. Love this cover for the busyness and all on a white background. I always think white backgrounds work well on covers. really makes them ‘pop’ off the comics rack.

Also with this one is an additional goodie. Stuck on the back of the art is a Marvel Comics branded envelope. Inside said envelope is the UPS artwwork.

‘Whats that Andrew?’ well, you may know that Marvel did (may still do) two versions of their books. One was for newstand sales and one was for direct sales (through comic shops). The one that sold through newstands has a UPC barcode in a little box in the bottom left corner. This is what gets scanned when you buy it and helps the shop’s stock control system. The ones that go to Direct Sales comic shops don’t have this. In that box they stick a small advert or some other such Marvel related info. The one here is promoting 50 years of Marvel. The bit of art is stuck on a photocopy of the cover to show positioning.

Not sure who’s great idea it was but I picked up on the idea of doing a small illustration in those boxes at some point. So anyone who has a Transformers comic with a barcode in only has half the deal. I think I only picked up on it by the time I got to issue #76 so no little illo on this one. Take a look at the ‘Cover Browser’ site  HERE to see the covers as they appeared and you will see some of those little illustrations. I think 76 and 77 being my favourite

Auction is now live  here

The auction of the first two Marvel Transformers covers has now finished. Result was good, as in they both went to good homes Bad news is that they didnt get as much as the previous auction of GI Joe covers. Bad simpy because I was hoping to pay my cats vet bill with the proceeds. So its a sad story but the poor chap, Pablo, got hit by a car and vet bills are running into four figures!! Serves us right for being squashy mamals rather than machine reparable robots Seems ironic after my car accident a couple of weeks ago when I was hit by a truck and pushed off of the motorway. Fortunately I didnt need to go to the vet. As for the car? well that failed miserably to transform and has now been laid to rest.

So I may get another couple of covers up next weekend. Will see how how Pablo feels.

Issue 3 of the ongoing TRANSFORMERS series is now announced. This features a cover by Don Figueroa and this alternative cover by me. This is the second of the six I am currently doing for IDW. Strike a pose Rodimus

What tickles me about this is that for many years people have commented on the fact that I used to make the Transformers very ‘human’. I would draw them with expressions and teeth and sometimes saliva. Of course it was never saliva but oil. Well, to take that a step further I decided at the colouring stage to show Rodimus Prime’s breath in this chilly environment. Click on the picture to see a larger version where you should be able to see it. Too human? surely not. After all, robots would give off something from the heat they would generate

So I am finally doing it. the first two Marvel Trans covers to go for auction will be issues 71 and 73. It will be interesting to see how they go It all starts at 11pm BST for 10 days. So as promised, I am going to be auctioning most of my old Marvel Transformers covers from 1990. Found a few in a box in the attic. 69, 70, 71, 73, 74, 76, 77, 78 and 80 so far. Not sure what happened to the others and of course, Geoff Senior was the artist on issue 75. Just scanning them all in and should have something up on eBay in a couple of days

Just finished the third of the series of TRANSFORMERS covers that I am currently doing. Can’t wait to show you what these all look like but you will have to wait a little longer. IDW will show them as and when. Three more to go and then that may be it for me in the world of TRANSFORMERS. I am sure that I will doodle the odd Optimus Prime for charity of something but unlikely to be doing any more comics stuff.

The aution of GI Joe covers has gone very well. There are a few internal pages ending their auction tonight on eBay so will be interesting to see how mauch interest they get. I am going to hold off autioning the remaining covers for now. I think those that have been buying are a bit spent out.

Next up at some point will be the original art for the Marvel US Transformers that were done around 1990. There are 11 of them somewhere in the attic. The search is on.

Next up and starting tonight are four internal pages. As with the covers these are pages that I was hanging onto because… well, I liked them. But the time has come to let them go.
